A new restaurant featuring Korean fried chicken is coming to Sioux Falls next month.

Leon Teng decided to start Oppa Chicken with his friend Ricky Ou, who is an “expert” at Korean-style fried chicken, Teng said. Teng is also the owner of Ramen Fuji in Sioux Falls, which opened in 2018.

“I’ve always loved starting something new, and we thought this was a good opportunity to give people here more choices for dining out,” Teng said.

Oppa Chicken will take over the former Poke Picks space at 3412 S. Western Avenue.

The restaurant will focus on the chicken wings, which come in seven flavors: honey garlic, soy garlic, sweet spicy, onion mayo, hot spicy, cheesling and original. Cheesling is coated in powdered cheese and has a light, sweet flavor, said Teng.

The menu will also include other Korean dishes such as ramen and udon noodle soups and fried rice dishes as well as appetizers like wontons, french fries, Korean tacos and steamed buns.

The drink menu features Pepsi products, Japanese soda, boba tea, slushies and fruit tea. House wine and both domestic and Japanese beer are also available for customers over 21.

Customers will order at the counter and workers will bring the food to the table, said Teng, and there will be seating for about 50 to 70 people.

The plan is to open in early to mid-September, Teng said, but hasn’t yet set a date.

“I think we have a lot of people looking forward to our restaurant,” Teng said. “We’re excited, and everyone else is getting excited for us to open.”

Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. People can follow along with updates on their Facebook page.
